I have a pool-spa with an existing Jandy Aqualink 4 (ancient) I'd like to replace or upgrade, and trying the gauge the DIY potential of this job. http://www.poolzoom.com/aqualink-control-system-power-center-with-iaqualink-valve-acutators.html The kit above seems to be the best value, it is a rip and replace rather than an upgrade, totally new box and system rather than a PCB upgrade, but it comes with the two actuator valves (Conversion kits only have the PCB board and the hardware.) It's abo... game similar to billiards, 1848, originally (1690s) the name of a card game played for collective stakes, from pool "collective stakes of players in a game," which is from French poule "stakes, booty, plunder," literally "hen," from Old French poille "hen, young fowl," from Vulgar Latin *pulla, fem. of Latin pullus "young animal," especially "young fowl," from PIE root *pau- (1) "few, little." Perhaps the original notion is from jeu de la poule, supposedly a game in which people threw things at a chicken and the player who hit it, won it, which speaks volumes about life in the Middle Ages. The notion behind the word, then, is "playing for money." The connection of "hen" and "stakes" is also present in Spanish polla and Walloon paie. By 1868 it came to mean "combination of a number of persons, each staking a sum of money on the success of a horse in a race, a contest in a game, etc., the money to be divided among the successful bettors," thus also "collective stakes" in betting. The sense of "common reservoir

Traveling from Amsterdam to Paris by TGV, a fast train. I'm taking a painting I did for friends, and some assorted things all wrapped up in one biggish package of bubbly foil. That's why the train. Somewhere along on the ride south I get a message from the guy to whom I let my house for the summer. He needs to know how to work the pool to keep it clean. Doing so involves two electric pumps. I write him back, detailing the procedure, in Spanish. The word for pump is 'bomba'. I am nearing 30 in a...

Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/MlgVnok We recently purchased a house with a pool that needed a new liner, which we just had replaced. We're new to owning a pool; both grew up with them but still learning about running our own. Pool's now filled and we got the pump going (after replacing the run capacitor), but we have it set to recirculate only because we're clueless about what's going on with the filter. As far as we can tell, this is a fairly old model but we can't identify which because ... of liquid, "to form a pool or pools," 1620s, from pool (n.1). Earlier, of land, "to be full of pools" (polen, mid-15c.). Related: Pooled; pooling. "to make a common interest or fund, put things into one common fund or stock for the purpose of dividing or redistribution in certain proportions," 1871, from pool (n.2). Related: Pooled; pooling.

Pool pump valve diagram. c. 1500, "work with a pump, raise water or other liquid with a pump," from pump (n.1). The metaphoric extension "subject (a person) to a process resembling pumping" (to elicit information, money, etc.) is from 1630s. Transitive sense of "free from water or other fluid by means of a pump or pumps" is by 1640s. The meaning "to work with action like that of a pump-handle" is by 1803. To pump iron "lift weights for fitness" is by 1972. Related: Pumped; pumping. Pumped up "raised artificially by a method likened to pumping" is by 1792; the sense of "excited, ready for action" is modern. Grose, in "Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue" (1788) has "To pump ship; to make water, and sometimes to vomit." To adults it was an eyesore but to us kids, namely myself and my three friends who also lived on Branston Road, it was an enigmatic playground. Doctor Marcum’s Junkyard was a thirty acre treasure trove of imagination that could keep us busy for hours and entertain our curious minds until the call for supper. Doctor Marcum was entertaining enough - more so by the fact that he wasn’t really a doctor at all but the moniker had stuck because he could “heal” any vehicle that coughed, sputtered, vib... late 14c., "one of the halves of a folding door," from Latin valva (plural valvae) "section of a folding or revolving door," literally "that which turns," related to volvere "to roll," from PIE root *wel- (3) "to turn, revolve." Sense extended 1610s to "membranous fold regulating flow of bodily fluids;" 1650s to "mechanical device that works like an anatomical valve;" and 1660s in zoology to "halves of a hinged shell." Related: Valved. 1550s, "kind of low shoe or slipper without fasteners, for wearing indoors," a word of unknown origin, perhaps echoic of the sound made when walking in them, or perhaps from Dutch pampoesje, from Javanese pampoes, which is said to be of Arabic origin. Klein's sources propose a connection with pomp (n.). Related: pumps. The word soon was applied to a shoe of the same character, with a very low heel, convenient in situations where freedom of movement was required, thus favored by "dancers, couriers, acrobats, duellists, etc." [OED]. The 19c. phrase keep your toes in your pump was dialectal for "stay calm, keep quiet, don't get excited."

Hi! A couple years ago we moved into a house with an in ground pool. It's our first pool so forgive my ignorance. Our CYA levels are a little high and I was looking to drain a decent amount of water to dilute it a bit. There's just one problem, I can't find a valve for the main drain! [Here's a diagram](https://i.imgur.com/hwFN7s1.jpg) of what I think's going on with our pump setup. Based on some quick google research I understand that there should be a valve before the pump for either skimmer... Hi All! We are building a new pool pump room for our 16'x32' inground pool this year. We are going to be buying a new pump, filter, clorinator, and solar heaters. This is what we are looking at: - Hayward Super Pump 1.5hp - Hayward 27 Inch Swim Pro Sand Filter with 6 Way Valve - Hayward 9 LB In Line Chemical Feeder - Solar PRO Contour Solar Heater x2 Im having issues trying to find a plumbing diagram for the setup im trying to build. If anyone has any recommendations for different equi... "one of several kinds of apparatus for forcing liquid or air," early 15c., pumpe, which is probably from Middle Dutch pompe "water conduit, pipe," or Middle Low German pumpe "pump" (Modern German Pumpe), both from some North Sea sailors' word, possibly imitative of the sound of the plunger in the water. Earliest English uses are in reference to a device to raise and expel bilge water from ships. Late Old French pompe probably is from Germanic. Pumps themselves are very ancient, which makes the late appearance of the Germanic word odd. From 1670s as "an act of pumping." Pump-action in reference to a type of repeating firearm is attested in advertisements for them from 1912. TL;DR Does anyone have a Hayward 1071 skimmer where the weir has pins on either side - if so what is are the dimension (most importantly the width) of the weir not including pins? Longer: I've inherited an old pool with what I thought was two Hayward SP1070 skimmers. That is at least what the lids on top of them say. But there's no markings of any sort inside to confirm that. Problem is one skimmer is connected to the main drain but the skimmer diverter / float / equalizer valve (I've seen i...

*My Leak* Last year my pool developed a leak. It's a good-sized play pool (3/5/4). By the end of the summer, I was losing up to 5 inches a day -- even here in Phoenix, when I first moved in, the pool would lose **maybe** 1.5 to 2 inches to evaporation a day during the hottest days. When I finally stopped refilling it in November, the entire thing drained on its own in 3 weeks (12k - 15k gallons?). The leak started in late April last year and increased every month to the previously mentioned 5 i... At the back of my mind there was gun-fire, screams, running, an alarm. But it wasn't until the long, dull thud of the emergency blast doors closing did I realise something was happening. I'd witnessed two fuel-leak drills in my brief cupboard-based time on this floor. They had been well organised and methodical affairs and each time the blast doors closed everything on my desk bounced a few millimetres in the air and my train of thought was disrupted. This happened now and my eyes drifted up to... 1610s, "an illustrative figure giving only the outlines or general scheme of the object;" 1640s in geometry, "a drawing for the purpose of demonstrating the properties of a figure;" from French diagramme, from Latin diagramma "a scale, a musical scale," from Greek diagramma "geometric figure, that which is marked out by lines," from diagraphein "mark out by lines, delineate," from dia "across, through" (see dia-) + graphein "write, mark, draw" (see -graphy). Related: Diagrammatic; diagrammatically. The verb, "to draw or put in the form of a diagram," is by 1822, from the noun. Related: Diagrammed; diagramming. "small body of standing water," Old English pol "small body of water; deep, still place in a stream," from Proto-West Germanic *pōl- (source also of Old Frisian and Middle Low German pol, Dutch poel, Old High German pfuol, German Pfuhl "pool, puddle"), which is of uncertain origin, perhaps a substratum word [Boutkan]. As a short form of swimming pool it is recorded from 1901. Pool party "party at a swimming pool" is by 1965.

Ok all, I need some help. I have inherited a pool with a chlorinator cross-plumbed from the return lines to the suction lines, with a jandy valve to close it. When it's open, the pump won't prime. So, if I leave the chlorinator open, and set a schedule on my VS pump to be anything other than run 24x7, I wind up finding my pump off (it eventually errors out after trying to prime for a while unsuccessfully). Currently under contract to buy a house in central kentucky that was built in the mid nineties. Most glaring issue was moisture in the certain portions of the crawl space. I've previously submitted a post about burning wood to heat liquid in a heating circuit to pump into my home and dissipate the heat through a radiator. You can find the post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY/comments/4kuu0v/best_way_to_pipe_heat_into_home_homemade_outdoor/) Following up i wanted to get the DIY'ers insight on some things! I just want to note that I'm not concerned with efficiency or how much wood is used, I have plenty of free wood. I also don't plan on using this to heat my w...

I am relocating my in-ground diving pool pump and replacing my sand filter with a cartridge filter. My current setup does not have check valve installed on the pump intake pipe. Would it be a good idea to add one so that the pump is primed more easily? I have read that I should have one, but the installation instructions for my Pentair SuperFlo pump do not state that one is needed. My equipment is located about 10 inches above the water line and about 15 feet from the nearest part of the pool. [...

I have a little diagram of my system I put together after having to get my second pool school lol.. [Here it is](https://i.imgur.com/ZA8jmX1.jpg) for reference I bought my home about two and a half years ago and have not had too many problems that I couldn't diagnose and deal with myself. The system is about 12 years old and most all of it is Jandy stuff with the exception of a Hayward remote control setup. Recently I was doing a little light cleaning and afterwards I noticed that there were s...

I'm a homeowner and that paid a pool company to install a pool and I've been dealing with the pool install from hell am looking for help. I've got a fiberglass pool that was put into the ground in Nov. 2018 and they are still yet to finish it. It seems like it SHOULD be a straight forward setup. I've got a pool that has a 1 ft deep splashpad/tanning ledge that sits above the pool that has two bubblers in it. The bubblers are supposed to fill up the tanning ledge with water and then the water spi...

Hello all, I bought a house with a pond and we are having an overflow issue. The heavy spring rains has overfilled the pond and caused water to pool around the sides. There is an overflow pipe but it seems to be set too high. I drained the water and I dug out the back of the skimmer to take a look and I found a few issues and an idea on how to fix the problem. I am new to plumbing and home improvement so I'd like to run my ideas through ya'll first and see if what I am proposing makes sense. ...

I inherited 80ft^2 of copper solar collectors and a 3/4hp pump for a solar pool heating system to add to my pool. [Here is my current system diagram.](https://imgur.com/a/glqTfaE) I’m wondering a couple of things: 1. Do I even need another pump, or could I use the existing filtration pump and add a 3-way valve at point two with the solar returning through a check valve to point 3? 2. If I do need to use the 3/4hp pump, would I tie in at point 2 and return to point 3 through a check valve to ...

Hi guys, I'm tired of texting/calling my dad when he is at work to ask him how to properly set the valves of his pool so that I can enjoy the hot-tub. A long time ago I made a diagram which looked like a 3 year old drew and it didn't last very long in the elements (and the configuration of the pool has since changed). This time I was wondering if I could call upon one of you wizards to put together a more professional looking diagram which I plan on getting laminated at my local FedX. Here is a...
